The services of 32 retired army
officers have been extended from December 2002, according
to an announcement in the National Assembly’s question
and answer session on Friday.
The officers who have been given
extensions include Lt General (r) Abdul Qayyum, who was
serving as the Pakistan Steel Mills chairman, Major General
(r) Syed Asif Riaz Bukhari was serving as a National Reconstruction
Bureau member, Maj Gen (r) Zafar Abbas was serving as
the National Fertilizer Corporation chairman, Lt Gen (r)
Saeed-uz-Zafar was serving as the National Electric Power
Regulatory Authority chairman and Maj Gen (r) Sikandar
Hayat Khan was serving as the State Engineering Corporation
chairman.
The other officers are Air Marshal
(r) Shahid Hamid, chairman, Alternate Energy Board, Cabinet
Division, Air Marshal (r) Sarfraz Arshad Toor, director
general Civil Defence, given extension in service from
March 8, 2004 to March 7, 2006; Rear Admiral (r) Sarfraz

(r) Muhammad Tariq (BS 21), executive director for the
Frequency Allocation Board; Lt Gen (r) Karamat Ali (BS-21)
executive director for the National Institute of Health
(extension from July 6, 2004 to July 5, 2006); Vice Admiral
(r) Ahmed Hayat (BS 21), chairman Karachi Port Trust (extension
from February 2, 2004 to May 31, 2005); Maj Gen (r) Agha
