32 ex-soldiers get
extension in service

The services of 32 retired army officers have been extended from December 2002, according to an announcement in the National Assembly’s question and answer session on Friday.

The officers who have been given extensions include Lt General (r) Abdul Qayyum, who was serving as the Pakistan Steel Mills chairman, Major General (r) Syed Asif Riaz Bukhari was serving as a National Reconstruction Bureau member, Maj Gen (r) Zafar Abbas was serving as the National Fertilizer Corporation chairman, Lt Gen (r) Saeed-uz-Zafar was serving as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority chairman and Maj Gen (r) Sikandar Hayat Khan was serving as the State Engineering Corporation chairman.

The other officers are Air Marshal (r) Shahid Hamid, chairman, Alternate Energy Board, Cabinet Division, Air Marshal (r) Sarfraz Arshad Toor, director general Civil Defence, given extension in service from March 8, 2004 to March 7, 2006; Rear Admiral (r) Sarfraz Khan (BS-21) Chairman Gwadar Development Cell, Maj Gen (r) Muhammad Tariq (BS 21), executive director for the Frequency Allocation Board; Lt Gen (r) Karamat Ali (BS-21) executive director for the National Institute of Health (extension from July 6, 2004 to July 5, 2006); Vice Admiral (r) Ahmed Hayat (BS 21), chairman Karachi Port Trust (extension from February 2, 2004 to May 31, 2005); Maj Gen (r) Agha Masood Haider (BS 21), director general Pakistan Post Offices (extension from September 4, 2003 to October 9, 2004); Maj Gen (r) Muhammad Aslam (BS 21), director general health (extension from March 1, 2004 to August 31, 2004); Maj Gen (r) Muhammad Ashraf Chaudhry (BS 21), additional defence secretary (extension from November 16, 2003 to November 15, 2005); Maj Gen (r) Rahmatullah (BS 21), managing director Federal Employees Benevolent and Group Insurance Funds (extension from June 2, 2004 to June 1, 2005); Maj Gen (r) Sikandar Shami (BS 21), director general National Institute of Public Administration (extension from April 29, 2004 to August 28, 2006); Rear Admiral (r) Bakht Ali Jamani (BS 21), executive director Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (extension from December 1, 3003 to September 13, 2005); Lt Col (r) Azizul Haq Mirza (BS 20), general manager the National Highways Authority (extension from April 3, 2004 for one year); Brigadier (r) Saeed Ahmed Rafi (BS 20), secretary Evacuee Trust Property Board (extension from January 11, 2003 to December 10, 2005); Commodore (r) Sheikh Rashedullah (BS 20), executive director Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (extension from June 10, 2003 to July 8, 2004); Brig (r) Muhammad Zubair Tahir (BS 20), director general Licence Enforcement, Pakistan Telecommunications (extension from April 12, 2004 to April 11, 2006); Brig (r) Maqsood-ul-Hassan (BS 20), director general Federal Directorate of Education (extension from July 23, 2004 to July 22, 2005); Brig (r) Muhammad Younas (BS 20), director general Board of Investment (extension from March 8, 2003 to December 6, 2006); Cdr (r) Syed Qamar Raza (BS 20), director general Marine Fisheries Department (extension from March 31, 2004 to February 28, 2005); Brig (r) Muhammad Sarfraz (BS 20), managing director Pakistan Baitul Maal (extension from May 15, 2004 to May 31, 2005); Cdr (r) Ghulam Haider Soomro (BS 20), chief engineer and ship surveyor (extension from April 21, 2004 to April 20, 2005); Wing Cdr (r) Abdul Majeed (BS 20), deputy director general Intelligence Bureau (extension from November 11, 2003 to November 10, 2004); Brig (r) Hamid Khan (BS 20), director general National Security Council (extension from April 27, 2004 to February 26, 2006); Lt Col (r) Amjad Zaman Khan (BS 19), joint director Vigilance, Pakistan Railways (extension from May 4,.2004 to May 3, 2005).
