Jolie visits Pakistan's premier
Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has met the Prime Minister of Pakistan on a visit to highlight the plight of Afghan refugees in the country. The Oscar-winning actress, who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations, thanked Shaukat Aziz for taking in three million Afghans.

Jolie accepted an invitation to speak at a conference on the issue, being held in Pakistan later this year.

The actress has been the UN's envoy for refugees since 2001.

The film star, who won the Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2000 for Girl, Interrupted, said she wanted to meet the Pakistani politician because of his "deep concern" for Afghan refugees living in the country.

Heart

Jolie is due to meet Afghan refugees during the remainder of her three-day stay in Pakistan.

In 2003, she was presented with an award for her humanitarian work, which has taken her to dozens of countries around the world.

After a visit to Cambodia in 2001, she adopted her son Maddox.

A year later on a trip to Thailand, she said that her heart was with refugees rather than the Hollywood film industry.

Pakistan has hosted refugees from war-torn Afghanistan since the Soviet invasion of the country in 1979.

While more than three million remain in the country, 2.3m have since been repatriated to Pakistan's westerly neighbour.
