There are 1,030 registered
and 1,020 Deeni Madrassas (religious schools) of various
sects in the province, sources in the Sindh government
told the Daily Times on Tuesday.
The sources said the Sindh
government conducted a study on all of the religious schools
and prepared a report to maintain record on religious
schools.
The religious schools belong
to the Deobandi, Barelvi, Shia, Ahle Hadith and Ahle Sunnat
schools of thought.
According to the report,
the 2,050 religious schools have 278, 041 students on
their rolls. Only 236 students are foreigners and they
are studying in religious schools in Karachi. In Karachi
there are 494 registered and 251 unregistered religious
schools. In Hyderabad district there are 269 registered
and 348 unregistered religious schools. In Sukkur district
there are 267 registered and 421 unregistered schools.
There are 1,117 Deobandi
religious schools in the province. Of these, 499 are in
Karachi, 259 in Hyderabad, 359 in Sukkur.
The number of Barelvi religious
schools is 791 in Sindh. Of these, 248 are in Karachi,
306 in Hyderabad and 237 in Sukkur.
There are 121 Shia religious
schools in the province. Of these, 13 are in Karachi,
27 in Hyderabad and 81 in Sukkur.
There are 59 religious
schools of Ahle Hadith in the province. Of these, 23 are
in Karachi, 25 in Hyderabad and 11 in Sukkur.
There are 12 religious
schools of Ahle Sunnat and all are in Karachi.
Karachi’s religious
schools have 169,020 Pakistani students on their rolls.
67,213 students are studying in Hyderabad district’s
religious schools and 41,572 students are studying in
Sukkur district’s religious schools. The sources
said the Sindh police were updating the details on religious
schools and their students. This was being done on the
directives of the federal government, the sources added.
