The government has decided to buy a bullet-proof rostrum
for the security of VVIPs and to control mobs in the federal
capital.
A recommendation for this
has been made to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat
and would also be sent to the Finance Ministry for funds,
Interior Ministry sources told Daily Times on Sunday.
The district administration
has asked the authorities concerned to buy the rostrum
in view of the latest spate of terrorist activities, the
sources said.
Sources said the bullet-proof
rostrum would be inducted in the motorcade of the president
when he proceeds to the Presidency from Army House in
Rawalpindi, the sources said. According to estimates,
more than Rs 15 million would be spent for this purpose
for which negotiations were underway with senior officials,
the sources said.
According to sources, the
administration has hired a retired Army officer who is
heading the talks. The district administration has sent
a reminder to the Finance Ministry to release Rs 4 million
for the repair of a bullet-proof Mercedes belonging to
the capital police, which was damaged during the attempted
suicide attacks made on President Musharraf, the sources
said. The damaged vehicles were parked at the Police Lines
Headquarters and could not be sent for repairs because
of a lack of funds.
