Pakistani intelligence agencies have received reports that
a new terrorist organisation has been formed and is involved
in terrorism in the country including attacks on girls’
schools in the Northern Areas, sources told The Fact.
“This group is new and completely
unidentified,” sources added. They said the intelligence
agencies were investigating the group but had failed to
identify its leader or its financial backers. Sources
also said initial reports had stated that the group had
begun operating in Pakistan six months ago.
“Investigations into the burning
of girls’ schools in the Northern Areas have led
the intelligence agencies to believe that this group is
involved in a ‘different kind’ of terrorism,”
sources added.
They also said the group communicated
over the telephone, and messages or orders were passed
through a long procedure.
“That is why the group’s leadership
has yet to be identified,” sources added.
Sources said the group was also involved
in suicide attacks in Pakistan.
“The group’s involvement in
the Ashura killings in Quetta can’t be ruled out,”
sources added. Talking about the Ashura killings in the
Senate, Federal Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat also
claimed Pakistan was facing a new type of suicide attacks,
sources said.
They said Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali
had stated that foreign involvement in terrorist activities
in Pakistan could not be ruled out.
Intelligence agencies had
so far not ruled out foreign involvement with the group,
sources said.
